Re: Anyone been to the Cotswolds?
There's tetbury as well - down the road from highgrove. Closer to bath there's also Bradford in Avon (don't be out off by the name) but bourbon ir stow are probably your best bets.

Lots of the places in the Cotswolds aren't necessarily full days out,l as they are quite small, but there's a fair few near bourbon as well. Plus there's the Cotswold animal park too, which is lovely.

Sudeley castle is impressive if you like that sort of thing as well

Re: Anyone been to the Cotswolds?
Yup,take your bird to Bourton. Stowe is nice as is Kingham (where my sister lives). And as said earlier,Woodstock,Blenheim palace in particular.

I live on the edge of the Cotswolds. Check out Woodstock, As a yank your girlfriend will love Blenheim Palace.

That's because your sister enjoyed it.

I once committed a serious sexual assault in the Cotswolds, and I got away with it too.

Yeah frightening place. "Give me six" is often used as they greet each other down there :-)

Forest of Dean is Wicker Man territory. More inbred than any Scottish Isle. Painswick is like Greenwich Village compared to most places in the Forest.

Yeah some "new builds" Stroud way but Slad and Painswick still untouched fortunately. Young, attractive Scottish lady runs the Wooly nowadays. Lots more geezers drinking in there most nights now... wonder why ? ;-)

The wicker man list?

Wise precaution. They're mainly virgins on here.

Re: Anyone been to the Cotswolds?
As a teenager I did the bottling up at the Woolpack one summer. At the time the landlord was an eccentric ex RAF bloke, and it was a bit like Fawlty Towers. Laurie Lees cottage was just behind it. Slad valley is indeed very nice.

Painswick is beautiful but every time I go back to Stroud they seem to have built further and further down the hill.

Re: Anyone been to the Cotswolds?
Btw, there are 3 West Ham fans in Painswick too. Cockney corner of the Cotswolds.

Re: Anyone been to the Cotswolds?
I am based in Painswick these days and the best pub IMO is the Woolpack in Slad near Stroud mate. Lovely views from the pub and a proper old country boozer , basic old style decor and it makes its money on beer and liquor ;-) None of that gastro nonsense like most others.

I would avoid all the other tourist areas like Bourton and Stow.

If you stay in or around Painswick let me know as I will need to get you off the "Wicker man List" ;-)

Re: Anyone been to the Cotswolds?
Know the Cotswolds very well. I often drive there in my Morris MInor Estate, pull into a layby and make my way to a secluded picnic spot, open the hamper and enjoy the vews. Then a short drive to my cottage.

Re: Anyone been to the Cotswolds?
Nailsworth, Stroud, Painswick, Cirencester - all good bases for a break. That road out of Nailsworth - The Ladder - up on to Minchinhampton Common is a good little drive, with a pub or two on the Commin itself.

Re: Anyone been to the Cotswolds?
Stroud definitely is. I lived there. Dursley is more out towards the river so I wouldn't know.

Re: Anyone been to the Cotswolds?
The peak district looked lovely. Was a toss up between there or the lake district but the lake district won out. Will hopefully visit the peak district next time she's over.

Ended up staying in the lamb inn down the road from Bourton. Thanks for advice, chaps! Much appreciated!

Do Stroud and Dursley count as the cotswolds?

It's lovely round there.

Mendips, mate, just about. Bloody miles from the Cotswolds. Very nice though.

Re: Anyone been to the Cotswolds?
Surface - I'd thought anecdotally that Bath was just about the Cotswolds. Not sure whether it technically is though. Either way its easily within reach of the places talked about.

Nurse - Peak District has some nice places but bleak cold and stark as a landscape compared to the Cotswolds. I reckon you'd love it.
